Coastal Angling Program
The Coastal Angling Statistics Survey expands the coverage and accuracy of the national Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) by integrating additional studies that address state-specific management needs.

These expansions include increasing the level of dockside sampling from 15,000 to approximately 20,000 angler interviews annually, interviewing anglers in upper estuarine systems, and developing new systems to assess the impact of specialized recreational fisheries. The additional sampling improves the precision of catch estimates as well as provides additional biological data (lengths and weights) needed for stock assessments. Staff will also continually examine FMP research needs to determine if changes in the way we distribute samples are needed.
