Coastal Angling Program - Assessment of Night Fishing

Coastal Angling Program
A variety of night fishing activity occurs throughout North Carolina on shore, pier, and estuarine private boat and guide fisheries. Night fishing access sites are located throughout the state but fluctuate greatly by county. North Carolina will use surveys of selected individuals (panel surveys) to identify the major species targeted during night fishing, areas of occurrence, and evaluate night and day catch rates.

The panel survey participants (night and day anglers) will be used to see if differences exist between catch rates from day and night fishing activities.

The NCDMF is also participating in a Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) pilot survey that distributes sampling around the clock. This will provide additional information needed to characterize night fishing catches.
